This wall is a keyhole through which we can see a few animal species who have been put at risk by humankind. To understand Mother Nature and its creations, and get back closer to Her, we need to first realize how different creatures’ lives get affected by our compulsions and mostly, by our need for business. For example, sperm whales are killed to extract ambergris, a product used as a fixative in perfumes. Crocodiles are skinned for bags and shoes, rhinoceros are hunted for their horns, and elephants for their tusks. Pigs get stunned with electric current and then hung on a rail, where their throat get slit. Other smaller animals get killed by mistake, and others, like the Moa Nalos, a rare Hawaiian species, got extinct because of humankind settling in its approximations. Two centuries ago, the human mass represented only a small percentage of the total living mass; nowadays, instead, humans have multiplied so greatly that they make up to the 98% of the total living mass. Some might think that the Coronavirus pandemic is Nature claiming back some of its strength. Still, we do not act conscientiously now, trying to understand how to live in better harmony among ourselves and different beings, more and more species will disappear from this planet. This installation hopes to serve as a key to understand a new way of living for the future, where empathy is key to understand and respect all creatures. The illustrations here displayed are copies of the originals, which also got destroyed because of some human disruption.

MunaMy artwork illustrates the poetry of Dr. Muna Sahli, who, through her words, has expressed emotions of hardship and sorrow for living under a harsh socio-political scenario. Her words do not speak about events, but let seep through those deep emotions stored in her heart. The illustrations here represented are commissioned for a poetry album which will be released in the fall of 2018.
